If you’ve been paying any attention lately you’ll see the proliferation of advice on how to generate FREE LEADS with social media marketing.  Literally hundreds of tweets every minute regaling the virtues of using Twitter to make $500 a day or some other nonsense.

My friends, here’s the SAVAGE TRUTH (with apologies to financial writer and advisor Terry Savage for borrowing the name of her column)….

Free Lead Generation Is Not FREE

“Free Lead generation is NOT free!!”  While you don’t spend money you DO spend your time…and if you’re doing it correctly…LOTS of it.  Ask me how I know!!!  You essentially become a slave to your home business…not the point now was it???

And as with most things in home based business, once a piece of advice or technique gets “hot” it gets passed down from person to person as Gospel.  Free lead generation is so hot now because people believe they can build a successful business without spending any money. Bull!!!  Not true now, never was true..never will be true.

My friends, if you actually believe you can build a business…ANY business without spending money on marketing…YOU ARE SADLY MISTAKEN..and you will fail….guaranteed.  You MUST erase the notion from your mind that you don’t have to or what’s even worse..shouldn’t have to spend any money.

You Should Be Thrilled

In fact the opposite is true…and you should be glad its true.  You should be glad there are tools and marketing systems and advertising and media outlets and resources that allow you to get your message to literally MILLIONS of targeted prospects instantly.

You should be THRILLED that you can pay for certain targeted keywords and the instant someone keys in one of your keywords…your ad comes up…at the precise moment that prospect is looking for the exact stuff you’re offering.

You should be THRILLED that you can pay to have your targeted message sent to MILLIONS of targeted visitors and then have that message FOLLOW THEM wherever they go on the internet.

My friends, you MUST stop this short sighted “I shouldn’t have to spend money” mindset.  It does not serve you.  In fact it KILLS you.   In fact, if you don’t believe me, as my Grandmother used to say…”keep it up boy…”

I’ll Be Marketing Rings Around You

Keep believing that sitting behind your computer and tweeting and posting on Youtube or Squidoo or Digg or whatever the hell else you do all day is going to save you.  And while you’re wasting TONS of time and not reaching anybody other than all the other people doing EXACTLY the same thing…

And while you’re foolin around making no money on Twitter….

I’ll be marketing and recruiting and selling rings around you while I pay for highly targeted traffic and leads using PPC, CoREG, and other paid media sights…that give me MILLIONS of unique visitors a day to my sites!!

Tough Love

Sorry, but I just wanted to instill some “tough love.”  All of my team members who include paid traffic sources (along with FREE stuff too…) and implement the techniques and strategies I teach them in my coaching and mentoring are the ones who make the most progress and make the most money!!

My paid leads on PPC and my other paid media sources are BY FAR the most motivated leads.  They call me the quickest and are the ones who take action.  It takes 100 free leads to equal one paid lead…of course, this is only my own experience.

The “take home” message here is to stop deluding yourself into thinking you can make money without spending money.  Grow up and realize its not how much you spend but what you make from what you spend.

If your budget is tight, that’s cool.  Start with what you have and as soon as you can, purchase a top marketing system to help you generate leads and make money up front.

Then invest money in PPC and other paid meda.  I GUARANTEE you will see a 10 fold increase in the quality and responsiveness of your leads, your list and ultimately see an increase in your bank account.

Don’t just take my word for it…test it and see for yourself.  But if you don’t, don’t blame me or anyone else if you’re still failing this time next year!!
